5. Assessments

5.5 Organizational Maturity Assessments (OMA)

The principle

As with CMMI, there is also the possibility to perform an organizational maturity assessment (OMA) based on Automotive SPICE. INTACS has developed an assessment model for Maturity Level 3 for the automotive industry, which starts with the VDA scope and gradually adds further processes for each maturity level.

Processes defined by INTACS for an Organizational Maturity Assessment (OMA)

Requirements regarding the Maturity Levels based on expected Capability Levels in the different process sets

What is needed to achieve a maturity level?

  • For a Maturity Level 1, a Capability Level 1 must be demonstrated for the processes of the Basic Process Set in each of the assessed projects and organizational units.
  • In order to achieve Maturity Level 2, the processes of the Extended Process Set for Maturity Level 2 and those of the Basic Process Set in the examined projects and organizational units must demonstrate at least capability Level 2.
  • For Maturity Level 3, at least Capability Level 3 must be demonstrated for all processes of the Basic and Extended Process Sets for Maturity Level 2 and 3 for each of the assessed projects and organizational units.

Who should assess OMAs?

Although there are no formal requirements only assessors with much experience should be employed. For a class 2 and 3 assessment the ISO/IEC 33002 standard recommends that the lead assessor is independent from the organizational unit being assessed.
